Dr Maeve O’Reilly is a consultant based at St Luke’s Hospital in Dublin. She also works with the Specialist Palliative Care team in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin.

A graduate of UCD, she trained in Ireland with Dr Michael Kearney at Our Lady’s Hospice Harold’s Cross. She then completed her specialist training in the UK with Dr Claud Regnard and Professor Tim Lovell at St Oswald’s Hospice and at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne.

On returning to Ireland she took up her current consultant post in 2001.
She was the first consultant in Palliative Medicine in Ireland to work in a children’s hospital, when she was attached to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin.  She developed a consultant led multidisciplinary service there which has since grown to include a full-time paediatrician with a special interest in paediatric palliative medicine.

Since then she has had an ongoing interest in the development of paediatric palliative medicine as a specialty, and in specialist children’s palliative care services nationally.

She sits on the National Development Committee for children’s palliative care and job shares with her colleague Dr Marie Twomey.
